CHAPTER 7

I watched as Autumn dropped the ladder down the side of the ship. I climbed up first and watched for any threats while Casey and Joy followed.

Once they made it to the deck, I tied a rope to the railing for later use. We would need to lower everything we collect with it, unless the lifeboat deployment system still had power, which Joanne doubted.

I had my shotgun, which Joanne was unaware of, Casey carried my pistol after a short refresher course and Joy carried my hunting rifle.

"Do you think there could be any dangerous things here?" Joy asked. "When we abandoned the ship, it was planned ahead of time. It was very well organized, but then a storm hit and all the life boats scattered, or at least ours was separated from the others. I doubt anyone is here, except maybe some birds, and the island has plenty of those."

"Okay, we hit priority items first. The clinic, the pharmacy and then other items. The list is extensive. Everything from kitchen knives to blankets and tools are listed. It'll definitely take more than one trip to get everything, but we can make out with quite a lot in this one."

"Make out," Casey teased. "I could go for some of that."

I smiled as I moved forward. "Work first and then play," I said.

"Or, we could play first. It's not like we have a curfew," she said.

"No, but if we work first, you can play all you want."

"With anything I want?" She asked.

"Yes," I said.

"You're insatiable!" Joy teased.

"What? We're on a cruise ship, alone, lots of beds, alcohol. We could have some fun, the four of us," Casey mused. "You could even boss me around a little. You know, tell me what to do." She chuckled and I knew what she was referring to, but by the look on Joy’s face, she did not and I expected her to be asking some questions later.

"Alright, let’s just concentrate," I said.

"Shh," Autumn whispered. "I hear something."

I swept my shotgun across the deck, but I didn't see anything.

"My humanz, move!" Autumn warned, but I didn't see anything.

Something smacked my left shoulder, sending me flying several feet, to slide along the deck until I smacked into some turned over deck chairs.

Joy was screaming, while pointing the rifle in every direction, Autumn was pointing at something, and Casey was shaking with her hand on her pistol, while it was still in its holster.

I lifted the shotgun and fired where I thought Autumn was pointing, all I hit was the steel wall. I racked another round. And adjusted. Her finger was moving towards me and I could smell something rotten. I fired again and heard a deafening roar. I fired again, and again, until the shotgun was empty, yet the unseen beast was on top of me.

I was lifted several feet into the air and thrown back at the others, where I slammed into Casey, with her head smacking into the deck, knocking her out. Autumn, aim for
